am unable to duplicate this behavior on Linux or OS X using python 2.6. What platform did you see the problem on? that said, can you apply the following patch to your getpass.py and see if it helps at all? http://svn.python.org/view/python/trunk/Lib/getpass.py? r1=74860&r2=76000&pathrev=76000
